Life In Spain

life in spainYou’re set on the move, and you’re excited! It’s something about the Spanish culture that lures you, there’s just something that draws you in, and for good reason; Spain caters to whatever you need and more. Espana Properties is here to help you when you have made the decision to move to this excellent Mediterranean location.

The Language

The Spanish language is a fun language. Many foreigners enjoy trying to annunciate, no doubt unsuccessfully at first, certain words, like “barrio” with the rolling sound of the double r’s and “ventana” which sounds more like “bentana” and even “lluvia” or “tortilla” which foreigners usually pronounce without the “y” sound of the double l.

Despite some of the differences in regional dialect between Latin American Spanish, South American Spanish and the Spanish spoken in Spain, in some regions referred to as castellano, those who are familiar with Spanish should be able to converse with the locals without too much of a problem.

Unique Culture

The Spanish culture is much different than you will find in much of the world. Spaniards are outgoing, festive and friendly. In more heavily populated cities such as Barcelona and Madrid, you will notice that people like to be outdoors. While this isn’t unique to these larger cities as this represents the cultural mindset of the entire nation, it’s very common to see friends and even acquaintances congregating at a local café, laughing it up as if they were old friends, even if they’ve just met.

Much unlike people from the west, Spaniards are intensely loyal and protective of not only their family and friends, but their neighbors as well. This includes any newly acquired neighbors who have immigrated into this great country. When you make the decision to move to Spain, you will move into a community where you have inherited the protection of your local community. This is undoubtedly one of the many benefits of living in Spain.

Pleasant climate

Having what is considered the most pleasant climate of all Mediterranean regions; Spain is a popular tourist location. Even in the off seasons, you’ll notice that the coastal areas are friendly with a pleasant climate so that you can enjoy the outdoors and the wonderful scenery that living in Spain affords. Whether it’s a walk on the beach or a late night stroll through town, you’ll find that the overall climate in Spain is hospitable any time of the year.

Diverse population

With an estimated of 11% of the population being immigrants, you can expect to find cultural diversity around every corner. While Spain has a unique culture in and of itself, a large number of Moroccan, Ecuadorian, Columbian and Romanian immigrants help to add more “flavor” to this already colorful culture, giving you even more reason to make the move to this ethnically diverse country.

Shopping experiences

While there are national grocery store chains like Dia and El Corte Inglés available to suit your tastes for local cuisine or for a taste from home; most Spaniards, like many of their European neighbors, purchase their groceries at small family-owned specialty stores. Shopping in Spain has a cozy feel to it, reminiscent of the old-world, yet with all the conveniences of a modern society close by.

With the unique culture, diverse population and modest climate of Spain, you can expect that when you are looking to move to Spain, you’ll wonder why you didn’t make the move sooner. Spain is a wonderfully diverse country, and Espana Properties can help you get settled in once you’ve decided to make the move.
